In accordance with the guidelines of the Bihar State Universities Act, Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University Patna was established in 1998. The University of Grants Commission (UGC) has granted recognition to the university. With effect from December 2009, the university has joined the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. The university's primary goal is to develop higher studies in Arabic and Persian. Alim (Graduate) and Fazil (Post Graduate) examinations, which were previously administered by the Bihar Madrasa Education Board, are now administered by the university. These degrees are now equal to three-year and postgraduate degrees from any other university in India or overseas.
The university provides courses at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and certificate courses in regular mode. Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University UG course list includes Bachelor of Computer Application (B.C.A), Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A), Bachelor Journalism & Mass Communication (B.J.M.C), Bachelor in Library & Information Science (B.L.I.S) and more.
Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University also offers diploma & certificate courses in functional persian, manuscriptology, Telecom & Mobile Technology (TMT), Computer Hardware and Networking (CHN) and more. Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University offers five diploma courses, eight undergraduate programmes, six certificate programmes and eight postgraduate programmes.
